How to delete your Uber account permanently

Uber and Uber Eats share one account. Deleting removes both. If you only want to stop using one of them, deleting is the wrong tool — just remove the app you do not want.

Delete your Uber account

Uber's documented route is its privacy portal, not the app settings menu — which is useful, because it works whether or not you still have the app installed.

1. Go to myprivacy.uber.com and sign in.
2. Follow the guided deletion steps.
3. Verify your identity — Uber usually sends a code to your phone or email.
4. Confirm.

The 30-day window

The account is deactivated immediately and permanently deleted after 30 days. Signing in at uber.com within those 30 days restores it — so if you actually want it gone, do not log in to check.

Unused credits, promotions and rewards are removed. Spend any Uber Cash before you start.

Before you delete

• Download your trip history if you need it for expenses or tax — it is not recoverable afterwards.
• Spend Uber Cash — remaining balances are generally forfeited.
• Cancel Uber One separately if you subscribe.
• Settle outstanding charges — Uber blocks deletion with an unpaid balance.

Uber retains certain trip and transaction records after deletion where required by law and for safety and fraud purposes. Deleting stops the account; it does not erase the regulatory record.

The in-app route, if you still have the app

The privacy portal is the route Uber documents, but the app reaches the same place and is faster if it is already on your phone:

1. Open the Uber app and tap the menu.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Privacy settings.
4. Tap Delete Account and work through the prompts.

Either route asks you to prove it is really you with a temporary verification code. That code normally goes to the phone number on the account — so if you have changed number and not updated Uber, fix that before you start, or you will get stuck at the last step with no way through.

If you have ever driven or delivered

Driver deletion is a bigger action than rider deletion. Deleting a driver account removes your Uber profiles across the board — the rider profile and the Uber Eats profile go with it. Uber asks during the flow whether you want the rider account deleted alongside the driver account, so read that prompt rather than clicking through it.

Drivers also cannot delete on demand in the way riders can. Outstanding payments, in-flight incidents and open insurance or regulatory matters hold the account open until they are resolved, because the record has to survive for as long as someone might need to make a claim against it.

How long Uber keeps your data afterwards

Deletion ends the account. It does not end the record, and Uber is unusually specific about this: account information, location data and transaction information are retained for seven years following a deletion request, for tax obligations, potential litigation or insurance claims, and transport regulations.

That is worth understanding before you delete for privacy reasons specifically. Deleting your Uber account stops Uber using your data to run a service for you. It does not remove seven years of trip history from Uber's systems, and no consumer-facing button on any platform can force that where the retention is a legal requirement.

If your goal is to see what Uber holds rather than to stop it holding anything, request a data download from the same privacy portal first. It is the only moment you will be able to.

Before you press it, in order

1. Spend or write off Uber Cash. Balances, promotions and rewards are removed and are not refunded.
2. Cancel Uber One. It is a separate subscription and deleting the account is not the documented way to end it.
3. Download your trip history for expenses or tax. There is no route back to it.
4. Clear any outstanding charge. An unpaid balance blocks deletion outright.
5. Check for a business or family profile attached to the same account, and move anyone who depends on it.
6. Then stay logged out for 30 days. This is the one that catches people — signing in to check whether it worked is what cancels it.
