How to delete your Grindr account permanently

Removing the app does not remove your profile. It stays visible, people keep messaging, and your photos remain in the grid. Delete from inside the app first — and if you have already uninstalled it, reinstall and log in to do this properly.

Cancel Grindr XTRA or Unlimited separately. Grindr confirms that neither deleting your profile nor removing the app cancels a subscription — billing runs through Apple or Google, so you must cancel in your device's app store settings. Once cancelled you keep premium features until the end of the current billing period.

Delete your Grindr account

The path differs by platform, and on Android it hides behind a button labelled Deactivate.

Android:

1. Tap your Grindr profile.
2. Tap the Settings icon, top-left.
3. Tap Deactivate.
4. Select Delete Account, then choose a reason.

iOS:

1. Tap your Grindr profile.
2. Tap the Settings icon, top-left.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the menu.
4. Tap Delete Profile.

A deleted profile cannot be recovered. Grindr states this plainly — there is no grace period and no restore.

Cancelling the subscription, exactly

Because the billing runs through Apple or Google rather than Grindr, this has to be done on the device, and Grindr support cannot do it for you. Do it before you delete the profile — once the account is gone you lose the obvious reminder that a subscription still exists.

On iPhone or iPad:

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
3. Tap the Grindr XTRA or Unlimited subscription.
4. Turn off automatic renewal, or tap Cancel Subscription.

On Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Grindr → Cancel subscription.

You keep the premium features until the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancelling does not refund the current month, so there is no benefit to cancelling early beyond making sure you do not forget.

Deactivate and delete are not the same button

On Android the delete option sits behind one labelled Deactivate, which is genuinely confusing because deactivation on its own is a different, reversible thing. Tapping Deactivate is a step on the way to Delete Account, not the end of the process.

If you stop at deactivation, your account still exists and can be brought back by logging in. If that is what you actually want — a break rather than an exit — stop there deliberately, and know that your data is still on Grindr's servers.

What deletion removes

• Your profile, photos and albums, including private albums shared with others.
• Chats and taps — no export exists, so save contact details first.
• Your saved phrases and filters.
• Your favourites and blocks — which means anyone you blocked can see you again if you ever make a new account.

Messages and photos you sent may still exist on the devices of people you sent them to. Deleting your account cannot reach those.

Before you delete, if privacy is the reason

Most people deleting a dating app are doing it for privacy rather than storage, so the order matters more than usual:

1. Unsend or clear what you can inside chats first. Deleting the account removes your side; it does not reach into other people's app.
2. Revoke album access you have granted to specific people, rather than assuming deletion revokes it cleanly.
3. Save the contact details you want to keep. There is no export and no way back in — people you have talked to for years become unreachable the moment you confirm.
4. Cancel the subscription, per above.
5. Then delete from inside the app.

Uninstalling first makes this harder, not easier. If the app is already gone from your phone, you have to reinstall it and log back in to delete properly — and if you have also lost access to the email or phone number on the account, that recovery has to happen first. Delete before you uninstall.
