How to delete your Quora account permanently

Good news, and it is the opposite of Reddit. Quora does remove your answers. Deleting your account takes your profile, photos, bio, answers, comments, blog posts, votes, endorsements and messages out of public view — you do not have to delete them one by one first.

The one thing that stays: your questions

Questions you asked remain on Quora, because questions are community owned rather than yours. They stay unattributed — your name is not attached — so the question survives while your authorship does not.

Anything republished or shared off Quora is beyond Quora's reach. Deleting your account does not remove copies or links hosted by other sites.

Delete your Quora account

1. Sign in and open Settings from the profile menu.
2. Go to the Privacy section.
3. Choose Delete Account.
4. Confirm with your password.

You have 14 days to change your mind

Your account is deactivated the moment you confirm and the deletion process starts. To stop it, log back in within the 14 days — that reactivates the account and cancels the deletion outright. There is no separate cancel button to hunt for.

Quora holds the account for a 14-day grace period. Once that expires the account is deleted, your content and profile are permanently removed, and personal data is deleted from Quora's databases. At that point it is not reversible.

What deletion removes

• Profile, photo and bio — gone from public view.
• Answers, comments and blog posts — removed.
• Votes, endorsements and messages — removed.
• Questions you asked — these stay, unattributed.
• Quora+ subscription — cancel separately.

Search engine caches can keep showing old pages for a while regardless — Google controls that, not Quora. Deactivating is the reversible middle option: it hides your profile while keeping the account.

Why your name can still show up in Google afterwards

This is the gap between what deletion does and what people expect it to do, and Quora is a particularly visible platform in search results, so it matters here more than most.

Quora removes the content from Quora. It has no control over what search engines have already indexed, and a well-ranked answer can keep appearing in results — sometimes with a snippet of the text and your name — for weeks after the page itself has gone.

• Give it time first. Once the underlying page returns nothing, search engines drop it on their own recrawl schedule. This is usually a matter of weeks, not months.
• Use the search engine's own removal tool if a specific result is causing a real problem. Google has a route for outdated content that no longer exists on the page — that is the correct lever, and Quora cannot pull it for you.
• Check the copies. Quora content is scraped heavily by content farms and aggregator sites. Those are separate sites with separate owners, and neither Quora nor Google can remove them.

Spaces, and the things that outlive you

• Questions you asked stay, unattributed. That is Quora treating questions as community property, and it is why a question you posed in a moment of poor judgement does not disappear when you do — it simply stops having your name on it.
• Spaces you own need handing to another admin if anyone else uses them, or you leave a community without moderation.
• Answers you posted anonymously were never attributed to your profile in the first place. Deleting your account does not remove them, because there is no link between them and you to remove.
• Quora+ billing is separate from the account, and app-store subscriptions in particular carry on regardless.

If one specific answer is the problem, delete that answer rather than the account. It comes down faster, it can be done today, and it does not cost you fourteen years of everything else you wrote. Deleting an entire account to remove one page is the disproportionate option, and it is slower at achieving the actual goal.
