How to delete your Twitch account permanently

Cancel your subscriptions and Turbo first. Channel subscriptions and Twitch Turbo bought through mobile app stores keep billing after the account is gone, because Apple and Google handle that payment, not Twitch.

Download your clips and VODs first

Highlights and clips are removed with the account. If you have streamed anything you want to keep, export it before you start — there is no recovery afterwards, and clips other people made of your stream are governed by their accounts, not yours.

Partners and Affiliates must complete creator offboarding first. Twitch requires it before you can delete or disable, and it runs through Twitch Support. If you have ever monetised the channel, start there rather than at the delete button.

Disable rather than delete

Disabling deactivates your channel and content from public view and is fully reversible — log back in and Twitch restores it, allowing 24–36 hours to return it to its prior state. Your user information stays intact.

1. Click your profile icon top right, then click it a second time to reach Profile Settings.
2. Scroll to Disabling Your Twitch Account and click Disable Account.
3. Check you have the right account, optionally give a reason, and click Disable Account.

Delete your Twitch account

Deletion has its own dedicated page, separate from settings, and Twitch itself recommends disabling instead if you only need a break.

1. Go to Twitch's Delete Account page.
2. Check you are deleting the correct account and confirm.

Logging back in cancels the deletion. Twitch takes up to 90 days to erase your content and close the account, and states the deletion process terminates if you log in while it is still processing. If you want it gone, stay out for the full 90 days.

What happens to your channel

• Everything you made — clips, highlights, user rewards and settings — is deleted.
• Followers and subscribers are gone and do not return if you re-register.
• Your username is recycled, but slowly. It takes a minimum of six months before it returns to the pool of available names — so you cannot delete one account and immediately rename another to that name.
• Clips others created of your streams generally remain on their accounts.
• Affiliate or Partner earnings — withdraw any pending balance and complete offboarding first.

Twitch says it will not retain your content, contact information or username except where law or certain legal claims require it.

Disable is the option Twitch itself recommends

Both controls sit on the same screen and they are not close in consequence. Disabling hides the channel and stops the account being used, and logging back in brings it all back. Deleting starts a 90-day erasure that takes the username out of circulation for at least six months.

Note the last row again. Neither action stops the money, because the money is billed by Apple, Google or Twitch's own payment system rather than being a property of the account.

Get your VODs off before you start

Twitch does not keep past broadcasts forever even on a live account — they expire on a schedule that depends on your account type — so anything you want is worth pulling down regardless of whether you delete.

1. Open the Video Producer in the Creator Dashboard and go through your past broadcasts, highlights and uploads.
2. Download each one you want. There is no bulk export, so this is a manual pass.
3. Check the files play before you rely on them — a long VOD that stopped downloading halfway looks like a file.
4. Screenshot your channel analytics if you use them to approach sponsors. They go with the account.
5. Save your emote and badge artwork, which you may have paid an artist for and will not get back from Twitch.

Clips other viewers made of your streams live on their accounts and generally survive. That is often where the best moments of a channel actually are, which is worth knowing before you conclude that deleting erases your history.
