How to delete your Hinge account permanently

Deleting forfeits time you have already paid for. Hinge states that deleting your account immediately cancels your subscription and you permanently lose any remaining benefits. So if you have three weeks left on Hinge+, deleting today throws those three weeks away. Wait for the term to run out, or accept the loss knowingly.

To cancel a subscription without deleting, do it at least 24 hours before your renewal date — a requirement of Apple, Google and Hinge's own payment processor that Hinge cannot waive.

Pause instead

Pausing hides you from new people while letting you keep chatting with existing matches. Tap your photo icon, then the gear icon, then toggle Pause on.

Pausing does not pause your subscription. Billing continues while you are paused, so handle that separately if the cost is the reason you are stepping back.

Delete your Hinge account

1. Sign in and tap your photo icon on the far right of the navigation bar.
2. Tap the gear icon to open Account Settings.
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
4. Follow the prompts to confirm.

Hinge deletes your content — photos, chat history and member interactions — in line with its privacy policy. Uninstalling the app does none of this; the account stays exactly as it was.

Coming back does not get the time back. Hinge states that if you make a new account inside what would have been your original subscription period, you cannot reaccess those benefits — you have to buy a new subscription. Deleting mid-term forfeits the money whether you return or not.

What you lose

• Every match and conversation — permanently, with no export.
• Your prompts, photos and preferences.
• Any standouts, roses or unused purchases.

Hinge is owned by Match Group, as are Tinder and several other apps. Each account is separate — deleting one leaves the rest untouched.

The worst of both worlds, if you subscribed through an app store

Deleting cancels Hinge's side of the subscription but not Apple's or Google's. If you bought Hinge+ or HingeX inside the iOS or Android app, the billing relationship is with the store. Deleting your Hinge account ends your access to the benefits immediately — and the store carries on charging you at the next renewal date until you cancel there yourself.

Read that twice, because it is the one genuinely bad outcome on this page: you can lose the paid time and keep paying for it. Hinge cannot stop a charge it does not make, and you no longer have an account to log into to work out what is happening.

So the order is not optional:

1. Cancel in the store first — Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iOS, or Play Store → profile → Payments and subscriptions on Android.
2. Check the confirmation says the subscription ends on a date, rather than that it is still active.
3. Then delete the Hinge account.

Cancelling has to happen at least 24 hours before the renewal date to stop that renewal. Inside 24 hours, the next charge goes through regardless of what you do.

Pause, delete, or let it lapse

Given that deleting mid-term burns the remaining time, the timing matters more on Hinge than on most apps:

• Taking a break: pause. You keep your matches and can still chat. Billing continues, so cancel in the store as well if cost is the point.
• Leaving, with weeks left on a subscription: cancel in the store now so it does not renew, keep using the time you paid for, and delete when the term ends.
• Leaving immediately, whatever it costs: cancel in the store, then delete. Accept that the remaining time is gone and will not come back if you return.

What Hinge keeps after you delete

Deletion removes your profile from discovery and takes your matches and messages with it straight away. It does not empty Hinge's records on the same schedule: limited account data is retained for roughly three months for safety and abuse-prevention purposes before being purged in line with the privacy policy.

That is a normal and defensible retention window rather than something sinister — it is what lets a platform act on a report made after someone deletes. But it does mean deletion is the end of your access, not an instant erasure, and a new account created within those months is not a clean slate.

Save these first

• Contact details from any conversation you want to keep. Matches and messages go immediately and there is no export.
• Your photos and prompt answers, if the app holds the only copies.
• A note of your renewal date, so you can confirm on your statement that the charge actually stopped.
