How to delete your Snapchat account permanently

Steps last checked

How do I delete my Snapchat account?

Go to accounts.snapchat.com, sign in and select Delete my account, then enter your password and confirm. Snapchat deactivates the account for 30 days, and permanently deletes it 30 days after that — 60 days in total.

Memories are the thing people lose. Years of saved photos and videos live only in Snapchat's cloud, and they are erased with the account. Export them before you touch the delete button — this is by far the most common regret with Snapchat specifically.

Save your Memories first

  1. In the app, open Memories (the small card below the shutter button).
  2. Tap Select, choose everything you want, then Export and save to your camera roll.
  3. For the complete archive, request a full export at accounts.snapchat.comMy DataSubmit Request. The email link can take up to 24 hours.

Then follow the full data rescue checklist so you do not miss anything.

Delete your Snapchat account

  1. Go to accounts.snapchat.com/accounts/delete_account.
  2. Sign in, then select Delete my account.
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Tap Continue to confirm.

You can start this from your phone's browser — it does not need a desktop.

The timeline is 60 days, not 30

Snapchat splits this into two stages, and most guides only mention the first:

StageMost countriesIndia
Deactivated, still reversible30 days30 days
Then permanently deleted after30 more days180 more days
Window to download your data30 days30 days
Data auto-deleted at60 days210 days

During the first 30 days your friends see the account as deactivated: your name drops out of their friend list and you cannot be found in search. Logging back in with the same username reactivates it.

Your data download window is 30 days, not 60. The account is not fully deleted until day 60, but the ability to export your data expires at day 30. Do not assume the longer deletion timeline gives you longer to fetch your Memories — it does not.

Snapchat retains some information indefinitely regardless, including purchase history and the dates you accepted its terms, for legal and business purposes.

What happens to your streaks and chats

Cancel Snapchat+ before deleting. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, not Snapchat, so deleting the account does not stop the charges.

Common questions

Can I get my Snapchat Memories back after deleting?

Only by reactivating within the first 30 days. Your window to download data also closes at 30 days, even though full deletion takes 60. Export Memories to your camera roll before you start.

Can someone else take my Snapchat username?

No. Snapchat retires deleted usernames rather than recycling them. Nobody else can claim it, but neither can you.

Does deleting Snapchat cancel my Snapchat+ subscription?

No. Snapchat+ is billed through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel it in your phone’s subscription settings or billing continues.
