How to delete your Discord account permanently

How do I delete my Discord account?
Open User Settings, go to My Account, then choose Delete Account at the bottom. You must transfer or delete any servers you own first, or Discord blocks it. The account then sits in pending deletion for 15 days.
Transfer your servers first. Discord will not delete an account that still owns a server. If you own one, you must either hand ownership to another member or delete the server outright — and deleting it destroys every channel and message in it for everyone.
Your messages stay in every server
Like Reddit, and unlike most social platforms, deleting your Discord account does not remove what you wrote. Your messages remain in every server and DM, reattributed to Deleted User. Discord does not provide a bulk message deletion tool.
If specific messages need to be gone, delete them by hand before you close the account. There is no way back in afterwards.
Delete your Discord account
- Open Discord and click the gear icon next to your name to open User Settings.
- Select My Account.
- Scroll to the bottom and choose Delete Account.
- Enter your password, and your two-factor code if you have 2FA enabled.
- Confirm.
If deletion is blocked, it is almost always because you still own a server. Discord names the server in the error.
You get 15 days
The account enters a pending deletion state for 15 days from the moment you confirm. Once those 15 days elapse the account is removed from Discord's systems and the deletion is irreversible.
Shorter than the 30 days most platforms give, and easy to let slip past. If you are unsure, disable instead — that has no clock on it at all.
Disable instead of delete
Disabling logs you out and hides your profile, but keeps everything and lets you return by logging back in and following the prompts. Deleting is permanent. Both options sit on the same My Account screen, and disabling is the right choice if you are stepping away rather than leaving.
Disabling also requires transferring your servers. This surprises people who assume the server rule only applies to deletion. And disabling does not cancel an active Discord subscription — Nitro keeps billing whether the account is disabled or not.
Before you go
- Discord Nitro: cancel the subscription separately, especially if billed through a mobile app store.
- Server ownership: transfer to a trusted member via right-click on their name in the member list.

Why can’t I delete my Discord account?
