How to delete your Tinder account permanently

Deleting the app does not delete your profile. Your photos stay in the deck, people keep swiping and matching with you, and messages pile up unread. Everyone assumes otherwise. Delete from inside the app first.

And deleting the account does not cancel Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum. Those are billed by Apple or Google. Cancel in your phone's subscription settings, confirm it has stopped, and only then delete.

Delete your Tinder account

1. Open Tinder and tap the profile icon.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Scroll to the very bottom.
4. Tap Delete Account.
5. Tap Confirm.

You can also do this from Tinder.com or Tinder's Account Management portal if you no longer have the app.

Tinder offers to hide your profile rather than delete it — a genuine middle option if you are taking a break, since it stops you appearing in the deck while keeping your matches and conversations.

Tinder states that deletion of your profile data is delayed for 90 days. The profile disappears from the app immediately, but the underlying data is not removed straight away — Tinder describes this as a safety retention window, and it is also what backs their restore-your-profile option, so a deleted profile is not necessarily beyond recovery inside those 90 days.

Request your data before you delete, then move fast. Once the account is gone you can no longer ask for your data. Request it first and Tinder emails a download link within a few days — and that link expires 24 hours after it is sent. Miss the email and the export goes with it.

What happens to your matches

• All matches and conversations are removed. There is no export, so save any phone numbers or handles first.
• Your profile stops appearing immediately.
• Re-registering starts from scratch — no matches, no history, and no swipe reputation.
• Purchased Super Likes and Boosts are forfeited.

Match Group operates Tinder, Hinge and several others. Deleting one does not touch the others — each needs handling separately.

Hide, or delete — they solve different problems

Tinder's hide option is genuinely useful and badly signposted, so it is worth being clear about which one you actually want:

If you no longer have the app or the phone number

Deleting from inside the app assumes you can still get into the app. If you have changed phone, lost the number the account was registered to, or deleted the app long ago, use Tinder's web account management portal instead — it reaches the same deletion and works from a browser.

If you cannot log in there either, the login route has to be repaired before deletion is possible at all. There is no support path that deletes an account on the word of someone who cannot prove they own it, and there should not be — that is the same protection that stops anyone else deleting yours.

Deleting is not a way to reset a ban

This is the most common reason people delete and immediately re-register, and it is the least likely to work. Tinder's own documentation is explicit that profile data is retained for 90 days after deletion rather than removed on the spot, and that retention is described as serving safety purposes.

A fresh account created in that window is being created alongside a record of the old one. If you are deleting to escape a moderation decision rather than to leave, appealing it is the honest route and the more effective one.

Save these before you confirm

• Phone numbers and handles from any conversation you care about. There is no export of matches, and no way to reach anyone once the thread is gone.
• Your data download, requested first and collected within 24 hours of the email arriving.
• Your photos, if the only copies are the ones you uploaded years ago from a phone you no longer own.
